An Interactive Dictation, 20,000 Participants, €100,000 Raised, and 632 kg of CO2 Saved: this is how White Mirror created an engaging, interactive, and sustainable live event with Sparkup in support of Team for the Planet, backed by Projet Voltaire and Vincent Dedienne.
The Context
Following a first successful interactive dictation event for Hospices Civils de Lyon, White Mirror wanted to repeat the experience—this time for an environmental cause.
On December 19, 2024, White Mirror organized La Grande Dictée pour le Climat, a unique event designed to raise awareness about climate urgency and collect funds for Team for the Planet.
For each spelling mistake made during the dictation, participants pledged a donation. This one-of-a-kind event, supported by Projet Voltaire and Vincent Dedienne, brought together students, professionals, and retirees from all backgrounds.

The Challenges
With such a large-scale project, White Mirror faced a major challenge: How to turn a massive live event into an engaging, seamless, and accessible experience for thousands of participants?
Key Challenges:
Scalability
Managing thousands of simultaneous connections while ensuring a smooth experience was a top priority. The challenge was handling peak traffic without service disruptions.
Broadcast Quality
The White Mirror, Team for the Planet, and Projet Voltaire teams aimed for flawless video quality, regardless of participants' devices, internet connections, or locations.
Engagement & Interactivity
This wasn’t just about running a dictation—it was about activating and uniting Team for the Planet’s community. The challenge was to turn the live event into a collective experience, fostering engagement and solidarity for the environmental cause.
Energy Efficiency
To align with Team for the Planet’s climate mission, minimizing energy consumption was a critical challenge. Finding a sustainable streaming solution to lower the carbon footprint of the event was essential.
Sparkup: The Solution for a Reliable, Engaging, and Sustainable Live Event
To overcome these challenges and create a memorable experience, White Mirror turned to Sparkup’s interactive and energy-efficient live streaming solution.
A Virtual Audience to Create Presence and Unity
To immerse participants in the event, White Mirror leveraged Sparkup’s Virtual Audience feature. 20,000 participants were displayed on Équipe.tv’s LED screens, creating a powerful sense of presence.
This interactive setup allowed participants to feel truly connected, while giving Vincent Dedienne and the hosts real-time visibility of the massive virtual classroom… and potential cheaters!

The Power of Interactive Live Streaming
To encourage interaction, White Mirror enabled Sparkup’s live chat feature.
Participants could share comments—anonymously or not—while moderators selected the best ones to display on-screen during the live broadcast.
Reactions in real-time: Participants could react with emojis, which appeared directly on the live video and the participant mosaic, adding a human and emotional touch to the event.
This fun and dynamic format kept spirits high and boosted engagement.

The Magic of Scalability
20,000 participants connected seamlessly on Sparkup’s ultra-reliable streaming platform, from any device (mobile, tablet, or computer).
Crystal-Clear Video Quality
Ultra-low latency ensured real-time interaction, with a smooth and optimized broadcast for all network conditions.
A Sustainable Live Event
Sparkup is built on cutting-edge technologies that optimize energy consumption across the entire streaming process—from servers to networks to participant devices.
Cloud Rendering Technology
- Moves graphic processing to the cloud, reducing participant device power consumption.
Adaptive Bitrate Technology
- Automatically adjusts video resolution to fit screen size and internet speed, ensuring a smooth experience without wasting bandwidth.
- Server-side algorithms regulate video streaming to prevent network congestion while maintaining optimal quality.
Advanced Peer-to-Peer Technology (Powered by Quanteec)
Instead of relying solely on central servers, viewers share video streams among themselves, reducing bandwidth usage and cutting energy consumption by up to 65%.
These sustainable innovations drastically lower energy usage across participant devices and data centers while delivering an exceptional live experience.
A Live Event with a Double Impact
72% engagement rate—with 94% of participants staying connected from start to finish!
Over 780,000 live reactions, reflecting excitement and deep engagement.
68% energy savings compared to traditional streaming solutions.
Thanks to Sparkup, White Mirror successfully mobilized 20,000 participants, delivering a high-quality, immersive experience that helped Team for the Planet reach its €100,000 fundraising goal.
Together, Sparkup, White Mirror, Team for the Planet, and Projet Voltaire proved that a large-scale virtual event can unite a community around an environmental cause while minimizing its ecological impact.
This success demonstrates how live streaming can drive meaningful change.
